Either watch the video below or follow the instructions underneath, and you'll have your swag set up in no time at all!
Remove your Crashpad swag from the carry bag and place it on a flat surface that is free from debris and sharp objects. The base of the swag is fully waterproof however we recommend the use of a Crashmat under your swag for additional protection.
Unclip the webbing straps and roll your swag out flat. Remove the poles from the black PVC carry bag.
Follow this sequence for each curved
end pole;
(a) Extend the folded curved poles
(b) Attach the pole to the rod pins
at both corners of the swag
(c) Connect the bow clips to the pole
starting with the two top ones first then
work your way down each side
Extend the folded centre pole, then place the clip at one end of the centre pole onto the middle of a curved pole and repeat. Your swag is now standing up. Peg out each ends awning. Your swag is now setup.
Depending on weather conditions you may wish to peg down your swag using the peg loops located at each corner of the swag and open the doors and end ventilation windows.
If you have any further questions on the setup of your swag then please contact our Customer Support team on info@crashpadgear.com and we will be more than happy to assist with your questions.
To waterproof your swag, set it up, remove the mattress and thoroughly soak the exterior canvas with water. This allows the thread and canvas to swell thus taking up any potential leaks in the stitching resulting in your canvas being more water resistant. Allow to dry, particularly the seams. It is the drying process that seals the seams. Repeat this whole process twice to completely ensure the seams are waterproof and pre-conditioned.
To clean the canvas and PVC base of
your swag use cold water and a soft
brush or sponge. Clean the zippers on a
regular basis by using a soft brush and
also wiping a damp cloth. Do not use or
expose the swag to any of the following
which may lead to damage of the swag
materials; soap or detergents, insect
or pesticide aerosol sprays, petrols,
oils, solvents or similar such products,
incompatible water repellents. Exposure
of your swag to any of these items will
void your warranty.
Ensure your swag is
thoroughly dry before storing, this will
prevent mildew forming. Store it in a
dry place off the floor and out of direct
sunlight. In the event that you must
pack your swag while still wet, as soon
as you get to your next camp or arrive
back home, erect the swag and let it
thoroughly dry out before storing it
away until your next adventure.
For optimum use, we recommend the use of a Crashmat groundsheet underneath to act as an additional barrier to protect your swag. Select a suitable site that's clear and flat for your swag. Stay clear of any hazards such as falling branches, open flames, rising water beds, and water pooling areas. Do not use combustion cooking or lighting appliances in your swag. Minimise the chance of condensation by opening the end windows of the swag to enable air flow which helps regulate the temperature inside the swag to that of the outside.
Congrats on scoring yourself some
sweet new Crashpad gear. Respect!
To ensure the longevity of your swag
poles we have provided you with a
few hot tips.
(Side step: Grab yourself a cold beer. Optional but recommended.)
Please avoid doing any of
the following as this will lead to pole
failure:
• Take care not to overbend the
pole during pack up or set-up as
this creates unnecessary stress on
the pole sleeves and can lead to
pole breakages.
• Take care not to use the swag
poles when the swag is set up as
a leaning post (trust me the car
bonnet is much better for this)
and please don’t use them to
take your boots off at the end of
a long day (it doesn’t even sound
comfortable).
• Try not to fall on it when drunk
after a session around the camp
fire. Aim for the ground next
to the swag. It may not be as
forgiving but your swag will thank
you for it in the morning.
POLE TIPS
It is important when setting up the
curved end poles that this specific
sequence is followed to ensure you
do not place too much tension on
the poles.
Step 1) Extend the folded curved
poles and check that each piece
is inserted completely into their
respective sleeve.
Step 2) Attach the pole to the rod
pins at both corners of the swag.
Step 3) Connect the bow clips to the
poles starting with the top two ones
first, then work down each side.
Ensure this step is done only after
both of the pole ends have been
inserted into the corner pins first.
Step 4) Stand back and admire your
handiwork. See side step above.
Failure to follow this sequence
provided may result in poles breaking
as too much tension is placed on the
poles if attempting to clip bow clips
to the pole after only inserting one
corner pin.
MATTRESS TIPS
Allow at least 24 hours for the
mattress to air and return to its
full size after being removed from
the packaging.
